Iceland has convicted four executives of Kaupthing bank for market manipulation, a form of fraud. They have forced banks to write off mortgage debts, instead of allowing individuals or the government to take them on. They are considering whether to take the creation of money from private banks altogether, in favour of  a central public bank, as a way of ended the boom and bust cycle that caused the economic collapse in the first place.

When it comes to broken pledges the coalitions target to abolish the deficit by 2015 has failed, and the Institute of Fiscal Studies has released a report which questions how the Conservatives policies would remove the deficit if they were voted into government.

This interactive map shows the links between fossil fuels, politics and finance. Many politicians have worked in the fossil fuel industry such as Vincent Cable who worked for shell, and both Gove and Cameron accepted donations from fossil fuel companies. There are also politcians like Jacob Rees-Mogg who have assets in oil. The controversial and possibly highly environmentally destructive extraction of gas through fracking also has significant allies in government.
